The Storage Alchemist

An industry leader in storage technology, Mr. Kenniston currently works as the Vice President of Technology Strategy for Storwize and is an avid blogger for his blog The Storage Alchemist.  Before joining Storwize, Steve served as the key technology consultant to the CTO of EMC.  Additional roles have included VP Corporate Development for Avamar Technologies, Senior Corporate Strategist for Iron Mountain/Connected Corporation, Storage Technology Analyst for Enterprise Storage Group, and Director of Technical Support for Veritas Software. A respected technology thought leader and spokesperson on Next Generation Data Protection, including virtual server data and cloud strategies, Mr. Kenniston has worked with hundreds of customer/partner developing next generation storage architectures as well as presented and written extensively on storage technology. His consistent ability to define storage technology vision and effective go-to-market strategy has led to dramatic revenue growth and key acquisitions for his employers during his career. Prior to EMC, in his role as VP Corporate Development for Avamar, he developed the company’s OEM/Partner program, establishing relationships with major industry players to drive revenue, increase company value, and ultimately aid in acquisition strategy resulting in sale to EMC. As Senior Corporate Strategist for Iron Mountain/Connected Corporation, he directed the digital corporate strategy to span all asset types on storage devices.  He also played a key role in developing their overall strategy for the distributed data business for Connected Corporation, which helped lead to the acquisition of Connected by Iron Mountain. While with Enterprise Storage Group as a Storage Technology Analyst, he covered the entire data protection/FS/HA markets for IT, communicating with CEO and product managers to determine best business, technology and partnering situations.  During this period he wrote 100+ white papers, technology and thought leadership briefs, and trade articles, while conducting numerous executive speaking engagements for key clients. As Global Director of Technical Support for Veritas Software, he drove a major global consulting/sales engineering support initiative and directed a team of 100+ on-site global support engineers. Mr. Kenniston’s early career roles included: Technical Support Engineer for Parametric Technology, Product Manager for Invincible Technologies, and Strategic Business Development Manager for New Technology Solutions.  He is a graduate of the University of Maine, Orono with a B.S.M.E./Computer Science degree and he makes his home in Newton, MA.
