Hey, as most of you know, IBM purchased Storwize and changed the name. I have updated all of my previous videos that talked about the technology from saying "Storwize" to "Real-time Compression" - and added some more technical details. Also, with the help of Media Boss, I have updated the intro - pretty cool stuff! Have a look and tell me what you think!
What a great name, Snowball. And much like information can behave like a "snowball" turning into an "avalanche", Snowball VFX has been able to control the avalanche of data utilizing the IBM Real-time Compression technology. Here in this video customer case study, Yoni Cohen, Founder of Snowball talks about the value of Real-time Compression in his environment.
Additionally, we have captured from all of our Media & Entertainment customers what they think about the Real-time Compression technology. To see the value proposition, check out our through our good friends at TechValidate.
By the way, we couldn't have captured this amazing video without the help of the folks at Snowball for all of their footage they let us use as well as the folks at MediaBoss TV who helped us create this video.
I have been following Wikibon and Dave Vellante (founder) for a long time. It has always been a goal to produce something like TechTV or ITTV (like HGTV). Live TV for the IT folks. Last week it happened. I am very proud of what Dave has done. Check it out!
In addition, the great thing about Justin.TV is the ability to grab snippets from the episodes and use them to complement your posts about specific topics. For example, here is a snippet from the above stream talking about IBM's recent acquisition of Storwize and the new product IBM Real-time Compression.
With the impending name change to the "Storwize" product, the marketing folks at the old "Storwize" are at it again with their "viral video" campaign. Not sure how many of you have seen the movie or even the trailer to "The Social Network" that grossed $23M in the US brining it to #1 in the box office last week . Its a story of a guy that started in college with an idea and turned it into something big. Much like Storwize - an idea that started with only a few in Israel and has now been acquired by IBM for multi millions of dollars and will become a key part to IBM's overall "Storage Efficiency" strategy. This new trailer "The Storage Network" highlights too may realities of today's data management issues. Hope you enjoy it.

(BTW: In case you didn't get it Storwize is now IBM Real-time Compression)!
You have all seen the Geico commercial - "So Easy a Caveman can Do It!" now its time for high tech to jump into another viral-video marketing frenzy with this funny video.
The reality is Storwize is just that simple, plug it in and start saving 50% to 90% of your storage capacity, transparently without changing your applications, your servers, networks or storage. The technology is so easy to implement even your CIO can do it!
It looks like the this while 'viral video' thing just wont die. I am a big fan of 1938 media and their blog. Lots of video on the blog, funny, hits home and is entertaining. I check it out a couple times a day. Loren Feldman is pretty funny.
Today he makes a great point about this 'viral video' stuff. In his post he asks the most direct question we have all been avoiding - perhaps because its too early to tell but non the less - 'Did it Work or Not?" - pretty simple.
For Storwize I can tell you it did. Why, we didn't pay to have 1,000,000 high school kid click on the video. Our objective was name recognition and we got our name out there. How do I know that, because exactly what I had hoped would happen, happened - I got a call from our rep in CA who said she cold called an IT guy who said, "Oh, you guys had that funny video of a guy explaining to his boss how to save him money, that was cool, sure, I'll take a meeting."
We may not have got a million hits and having any type of bragging rights, we may not have got 10,000 people to come to our site to learn about Storwize and register for white papers and use our ROI tool, but we did raise our awareness in the IT world over the last 30 days and that is good enough for me.
